Larkin Charter Township, Midland County

The Larkin Charter Township Board of Review for March 2021 will be held by electronic remote access, in accordance with Michigan law, in response to COVID-19 social distancing requirements and limitations on the number of individuals in Larkin Offices. Taxpayers may also protest by mail (preferred), electronic remote access or telephone. The public may participate in the meeting via teleconference.

The township will post the information confirming March BOR remote access at the Township Offices and the township’s website www.larkintownship.org.
The Larkin Charter Township March Board of Review will meet on the following dates:

Tuesday, March 2, 2021, (11:00AM-11:30AM) = Organizational Meeting

Wednesday, March 10, 2021, = Appeal Hearing (3:00PM-9:00PM)
Thursday, March 11, 2021, (9:00AM-3:00PM) = Appeal Hearing

The Board of Review will meet as many more days as deemed necessary to hear questions, protests, and to equalize the 2021 assessments. By board resolution, taxpayers are able to protest by letter (including email), sent to 3027 N Jefferson Rd Midland, MI 48642 or officemanager@larkintwp.com provided appeal is received prior to March 10,

This notice is posted in compliance with the Open Meetings Act, Public Act 267 of 1976, as amended, MCL 41.72a(2) and (4), and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Larkin Charter Township will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed materials being considered at the meeting, to individuals with disabilities at the meeting or public hearing upon 10 days notice to the Larkin Charter Township Board. The purpose of the Board of Review is to hear the public's protest of their property taxes.

The Board of Review meets in March (Public Comment ONLY), July and December (these meetings are for clerical error corrections - not for Public Comment).


Duties and Functions of Board of Review

For the purpose of revising and correcting assessments, the Board of Review shall have the same powers and perform like duties in all respects as are by statute conferred upon and required of Boards of Review in townships, except as otherwise provided in the City Charter. It shall hear the complaints of all persons considering themselves aggrieved by assessments, and if it shall appear that any person or property has been wrongfully assessed or omitted from the roll the Board shall correct the roll in such manner as it deems just. In all cases the roll shall be reviewed according to the facts existing on the tax day and no change in the status of any property after said day shall be considered by the Board in making its decisions. Except as otherwise provided by statute, no person other than the Board of Review shall make or authorize any change upon or additions or corrections to the assessment roll. It shall be the duty of the Assessor to keep a permanent record of all proceedings and to enter therein all resolutions and decisions of the Board, and to make all corrections to the roll as ordered by the Board.
